46 blue flags will wave in the Canarian beaches, among them the beaches of VIK hotels

This year, the Foundation for Environment Education (FEE) has awarded Blue flags to 46 Canarian beaches, one more than the previous year.
In Lanzarote 5 beaches have been awarded, , being one of them Los Pocillos beach located , next to the VIK Hotel San Antonio . In Fuerteventura 7 beaches obtained their blue flag, to be mentioned the Costa Calma Beach, 200 metres away from the VIK Suite Hotel Risco del Gato.
The island of La Palma obtained 5 blue flags. This year’s novelty is the Port of Tazacorte, close to the Emblematic hotel La Hacienda de Abajo by VIK Hotels.
The Blue flag is an international award that, since 1987, recognizes annually the environmental quality of a beach. This award recognizes the participation in voluntary environmental initiatives by the municipal authorities, local population and the tourism sector. The criteria in order to obtain a Blue flag is grouped in accordance with the quality of the waters, the environmental Information and education, or the security, services and facilities, among others.
